Great news from my Oncologist!

You can guess what I'm going to say from the heading, can't you! WOOHOO, Mandy does a happy dance.....

Met with my Oncologist this morning and he said there is nothing cancerous showing on my Petscan so I am free of the dreaded C word right now! The other good news is that I can get the annoying port removed too - I had thought from reading UK and US forums that it would have to stay put for a year but no, not here, so that's brilliant as I find it quite uncomfortable at times. There was no sign in my scan of a parastomal hernia either as I was concerned as I have a bit of a bulge above the stoma which wasn't there to start with. I also have an appt with a pain management doc to discuss my problem butt as I still can't sit without donut cushions, and can discuss possible drugs that might help with the neuropathy with him (although according to the Onc they don't usually work). My view is that they are worth trying. I can't type properly any more due to it so that's the only blot on the horizon; thank goodness for my Kindle as tapping out text with my stylus is a lot easier and I can use my mouse OK so photo processing etc isn't a problem.

I have to have another colonoscopy in two months to check for polyps which are pre cancerous things which can be removed at the time of the colonoscopy and if they do find any I would need to have a colonoscopy every year, if not then every 3 years or so. I'll be seeing the Onc every 6 months and will have either an ultrasound or a petscan before each appt with him.

So for now I just breath a sigh of relief and let time heal me.

A Painted Lady, just because. :-)

I can't believe a week has gone by since I last blogged, but I've been tired and lethargic again with odd bouts of energy interspersed with spending time in bed sleeping during the day because I've been wide awake and reading during the night, and feeling generally blah. I suppose it is not surprising as the previous week I was full of energy and got out and about quite a lot. I am not too bothered about feeling like this as I know it's normal now (although it is still quite frustrating!).

I do have photos to share but wasn't in the mood and I haven't read any of your blogs either - I will rectify that as I'm feeling a lot happier right now, so I will catch up with your blogs and my own very soon. I just wanted you all to know the good news and to thank you for the support you have given me over the last year - it has helped massively so thank you all so much. xx

  6. I haven't been commenting on your health updates but HAVE been reading and following them with interest Mandy. This one demands that I do add my little voice though and so would like to say how pleased and relieved I am for you. You have been so stoical throughout this ordeal and now that you have the all clear, better times are just around the corner I am sure.

    1. Thanks so much, JJ. I appreciated your comments when you did make them but it isn't necessary to always put it in words. Chatting about our little critter friends is much happier subject anyway! xx

  9. Message to you from Ma, via my email : 'I was so thrilled and relieved to read Mandy's news - what a wonderful relief for her and her husband. Feeling such a sense of relief will go a long way on her road to recovery. What an amazingly brave lady - so generous to share with everyone too. She always came over as so positive and forthright and a wonderful example to so many people who are at the beginning of such a frightening journey.' Here here! xx
