Early morning dew

I took these photos on 1st April as it dawned lovely and sunny and dewy. I can't resist that combination as it seems quite rare here. So off I went into the garden as soon as the sun came up, still in my dressing gown, to get some pictures.

Nice reflection in a droplet on the same tree as below.

This is my Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy'.
This is its 3rd spring here and so far not a single flower has opened up.
Unfortunately the buds just drop off. :-(
Cross fingers that I get just a few blooms this year!

A variegated Weigela with an orb web.

Dewy tulips.

Greengage tree with a lovely web.

Greengage tree again in front of another plum tree.

This borage survived winter and is flowering now. It is very
hairy around the flower buds which hold the dew beautifully.

On the sunnier side of the garden this is a Horse Chestnut leaf that was just unfurling.
A few days later they were all opened up.

Prunus subhirtella again in the early morning sunshine.

Then I found these amazing droplets on some rose leaves. I could have really done with the tripod I'll be getting next month for my birthday present from my Mum!

Dewdrops on a rose leaf.

They were so perfect!

  1. Almost forgot - the other shots aren't bad either.

  2. I never seem to find droplets half as cool as your last shot Mandy. I've just turned as green as your background. Maybe I should go out wearing a fluffy blue dressing gown or similar. Or are there other secrets?
Runner up cool-shot-of-the-month is the Borage.
    :-)

    1. Surprised this comment didn't appear first! Thanks Nick. Dewdrops are so much more perfect than raindrops and I wish we had more dewy mornings (with sun of course). It would have to be a pink or purple fluffy dressing gown I think. :-)

  4. A fabulous set of images, dewly admired mon amie :-)
A special mention for the last two, just the perfect drops!

(LOL @ Nick, the comment order is rather surreal!)

Thanks very much mon amie! :-)

    2. She's cruel, isn't she?
No, she isn't, would never have thought of that dewly!

    3. Nor me, that's rather clever but don't tell her I said so, Jan!

    1. Thank you Amanda! I'm looking forward to having a decent tripod that can take the weight of my macro lens. Probably not much good for bugs but for droplets I think it will be great!

  7. Hi Mandy, finally made it! Which tripod did you choose?
I certainly agree with your thought on the difference between rain and dew drops, lucky to have found out that from experience in my short renewed photo life. I've got the impression that dew drops better "stick" to their hosts too! Thank you so kindly for the peep into your jewel chest, dear Mandy.
Oops, hope that doesn't come across the wrong way, my friend, absolutely no double entendre intended, too late to alter it now :-((
Personally I'm flabbergasted with the forest pansy dept.! (Oops, another one)
Btw have the orange marmalade cake recipe lying here beside me : it's in Dutch, so maybe I'll manage to translate it before midnight (recipe is nothing special...)

    1. Oh I haven't ordered it yet but it's a fancy Manfrotto one. I'll show you when I get it! It's a bendy one which gets down low so should be good for macros (so long as there is no wind).

Yes the dewdrops are tiny so seem to stick perfectly. You may look into my jewel chest anytime (naughty boy) ;-) I'm watching my Forest Pansy every day and the buds are almost ready to open.... will they, won't they?!

And thanks again for the recipe - looking forward to trying it when I've finished this giant banana cake!

    2. Manfrotto should be a very good choice indeed! Have a great day, Mandy!
